Teaching Nurses to Teach

 

  There is a tremendous need for nurses to become mentors and  preceptors for nursing students. But being able to do a job and teaching others to do it are two different skill sets. Even the most experienced nurses may need additional training to learn how to most effectively pass their knowledge on to others.

 

   With the goal of increasing the number of nurses who are

Clinical Nurse Scholar program teaches nurses to teach others 

 

willing and trained to work with students,  SECAHEC, along with other members of the Southern Colorado Clinical Scholars Coalition, sponsors a three-day Clinical Nurse Scholar Program each spring. The program, open to nurses from throughout its region, features a curriculum that hones teaching skills and includes courses on topics such as  educational
theory and adult learning. Instructors are obtained from local community colleges.

  The result is a growing number of nurses throughout the region who have the confidence and competence to offer clinical instruction to these students.
