Healthier Living Colorado™ which is a
chronic disease self-management course that is evidence-based
and was developed and researched by Stanford University.
The class is taught in English,
Spanish, Vietnamese, Hmong, Laotian, Chinese, Japanese, and
Filipino in Colorado.
Attendees include adults who
have chronic
diseases and conditions such as heart disease, arthritis,
diabetes, asthma, bronchitis, emphysema or other chronic
conditions.
They are encouraged to bring a
family member or support person with them.
Other courses offered through
COAW address healthy living and lifestyle skills such as
Therapeutic Tai Chi for Older Adults and N’Balance for fall
prevention.
COAW’s regional
coordinator, Jo Stinchcomb, works from the SECAHEC office.
She provides technical
assistance and support to class leaders and partnering
agencies throughout southeastern Colorado.
All of the individuals who teach
COAW’s courses receive extensive training in course content
and instructional skills.
